Birdseed “Cookies” for the Winter!

December 28, 2012

Well I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays! Winter is setting in for sure. It is freezing outside and the snow keeps coming! I thought I’d try to help the birdies out with some extra treats…so I found some birdseed ornament recipes (think birdseed cookies) and made a batch. I mailed a few off to family and friends and hung the rest from my balcony. The Magpies are enjoying them!IMG_7270

Birdseed Cookies:

3/4 cup flour

4 cups birdseed (I used a winter mix of all sizes)

3 Tbps corn syrup

1 package gelatine dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water

ribbon or hemp for stringing them up!

Directions: Mix everything together and then press into greasecd cookie cutters (or mash into balls) poke straws or sticks through them while wet to make a hole for the string. Let dry for an hour or so then carefully remove from the mold and flip. Allow them to dry for a night or so before hanging.

Yay!

And here are a few photos of snowy Steamboat!
